C & K Ventures will soon be releasing all software with an internally compiled data base manager/driver.   This is the function the old BDE used to perform.   The BDE had a few problems, not the least of which was matter of version changes and path over-rights when other software provider's products were installed.  C & K Ventures did it's best to install BDE paths so as to not effect other software but we only had so much control over the location chosen by the end users.   The solution?  Do not use an external data base engine, simply compile one in the application itself and then the application will always know were it is!  Why did this step take so long.   It was matter of finding a third party provider that could furnish such a delphi compatible component.

That has been accomplished.   We will be using the Advantage Client Engine and other support systems from Extended Systems Inc©.

The first product that this will be implemented in is ESOnly, our freeware ES237 form filling program.  Why ESOnly first?  This application does not need to define it's data table names dynamically at run time, but can do so at design time.  Plus ESOnly does not have any indexed tables.   For these reasons, it became the perfect 'test ground' for the new internal engine.

So, soon will be gone the old BDE file and all of it's version mismatch errors, etc.

Does this new internal engine mean anything else to me? I would have to answer that with a great big YES!   Please see below.

If there is one question we have been asked the most, it would have to be, "When are you going to release a multi-user version of 4HPlus!"

We have held off on this effort for may reasons.   Time, cost, overhead, network system management difficulties, etc.

The switch to the Advantage Client Engine and the ADT data base table format will finally make the possibility of true Client-Server operation in 4HPlus! a reality.  So, just what is this Client-Server stuff?   Simply put, anyone, can change anything, in anyplace, at anytime in the 4HPlus! program and everyone else will see and have access to the changes instantly.

This kind of power is not free.  C & K Ventures has been granted Advantage Partner Program status by Extended Systems (we are kind of proud of this) and thus their license packages are available through us so we can install your client-server systems ready to go.

Add to this a one time set up fee of $500.00   If you have one county in your state go Client-Server, the set up fee is $500.00, if you have every county in your state and the state office go Client-Server, the set up fee is $500.00  This is a C & K Venture's fee (This helps cover our time
in establishing a version type (normal or Client/Server) upgrade distribution list for your state).  We do not need to do this until the very first location in your state goes Client/Server, thus the reason for the one time, no matter how many offices, set up fee.
